So I was picked! Not for a juror, for an alternate, not even alternate #1, but #2 (I will write in more detail about my experience in the courtroom yesterday later)
Last Night:
- I went to bed past midnight after S's insisted. I was writing, replying to my friend's email, which required lots of attention and for me to reply thoughtful. I was writing a stream of consciouness draft, when S took the computer from me, and sent me to bed.
I went to bed and put on my headphones to listen to the meditation, but couldn't sleep. There were many things in my mind, also felt excited, started fantasizing and my heart and soul started to fly away to the arms of an stranger. I wrote a poem about this in my head, which I need to write.
This morning:
- Alarm blasted in my ears at 6:50 am. Wrote the dream in a hurry. Showered, dressed, and left. Another small scuffle with S over my phone chord. Another series of his morning tantrums, which I ignored, which made him even more angry. (in my fantasy, my prince, never has old cranky man tantrums...)
After he left the car upset, didn't bother to say goodbye, I drove to the courthouse. The labyrinth had already started, but it suddenly became obvious again. The street, the signs, the wrong turn.
Finally parked. Walked to the nearest coffee shop Siri found for me. Paid $7 + tip for a tiny, but supposedly potent cup of coffee, much needed.
Took tons of pictures along the way. Arrived at 9:00 am at courthouse, spent 15 minutes looking for the dam room. Appointment Card says: Department 31. At the main entrance there is a big sign that says: "Jurors for Jury Duty Room 307, 3rd Floor". Asked the guard, where is Dept 31? he sent me to Room 307. Went up the stairs, because elevators are device designed for anti-fragility. Someone bumped into me and some of my coffee spilled on the floor. Must clean it now. Nice latina service lady saw me, and hurried to handed me some napkins. I cleaned up and thanked her.
Up two flights stairs. Saw a young blonde lady going down the stairs, while typing at her phone. I couldn't resist and advice her to look where she was going. Without taking her eyes from her phone she stopped to type.
Arrived at Room 307, asked the clerk: where is Department 31? she pointed to the hall, go straight, turn right. Did exactly what she told me. A long hall with numbers from 22 to 26, but not 31. Asked some guy that looked like an attorney and must be very familiar with the place. There is no room or department 31 on this floor, you need to go to the 2nd floor.
Down to the 2nd floor. No room 31 either. I asked some officer, he sent me back to room 307. Back to room 307, the same clerk that sent me straight to the hallway, now doesn't know where the room is. She asked another clerk. The clerk finally explains, you will not see number 31, just got down to the second floor go straight and they turn right, and that's where the courtroom you need to be is.
